Course Description


Interested in a career as a professional lifeguard?


Turn to Pittsburgh Lifeguarding of the South Hills. Through our videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, first aid, CPR/AED and other skills you will need to work as a professional lifeguard.


Our training options feature two core courses - Lifeguarding and Shallow Water Lifeguarding (a blended learning format).


Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in lifeguarding that includes first aid, professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. A digital certificate is available upon successful completion of course.


Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 15 years old at time of class
  • 300 yard swim
  • 2 minute tread with no hands
  • 50 yard swim with brick retrieval

Our Class Options:


  • Blended Learning – Consists of 19 ½ hours of in person training and 8 hours of online class prior to attending the in person class. The online portion must be completed 48 hours prior to class. Upon completion of the online portion they will give you a certificate of completion (this must be brought to the first class). We will give you a link to the online class, which comes from the Red Cross.


  • Lifeguard Recertification Class – This is for someone who is already a lifeguard and has not let their certification expire. Certifications are good for 2 years plus 30 days, if your certification has expired you will need to take the blended learning course again and will be considered a New Lifeguard. They must have an American Red Cross certified lifeguard. You must bring your card / certification to the first class.

Recertification: $150


What to Bring to Class

Despite being adventurous, a lifeguard’s career has many challenges. We, at Pittsburgh Lifeguarding of the South Hills teach our students the safety aspects of lifeguarding, surveillance and first aid related activities.


Each Student Must Bring the Following:

  • 2 Towels
  • A Packed Lunch
  • Snacks/Drinks
  • Students taking the recertification class must bring their CPR mask
  • We Ask That All Students Wear a One Piece Bathing Suit for the

girls, Swim Trunks for the Boys (No Speedos or Bikinis)


If you cannot locate your mask we have them for $15.
